Dean Hamel, CEO / Principal
Dean Hamel is responsible for the sales and execution of Safety, Environmental, and Analytical Testing Services in North America which includes the focus area of Sustainability Services. Dean is a Chemical Engineering graduate from Northeastern University with over 27 years of experience in the chemical process and pharmaceutical industries. During his career, Dean has held a variety of positions within Process Development, Engineering, Production Management, Resource Management, EHS, Product Management, Business Management and the Expert Services Consulting Group. These job responsibilities have provided mobility and have given him the opportunity to work at several domestic and international business locations. Dean has co-authored several papers in the field of consulting and knowledge-based services. He is an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Society of Plastic Engineers and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.
Tom Hoppe, Senior Safety Consultant
Tom Hoppe is a graduate of Rutgers University with over 45 years experience in the chemical processing and pharmaceutical industry. Over the course of his career, Tom has held numerous positions of responsibility in manufacturing, process development and EH&S. These positions include: Production Manager of Polymers Synthesis, Manager of EH&S for a major production site, Director of Ciba's Corporate Safety Testing Laboratory, Corporate Director of Process Safety for the NAFTA Region. Until the formation of Global Product Services LLC, Tom was orking for Intertek Expert Services as a Senior Safety Consultant.
Tom has made numerous publications in the areas of thermal process safety, dust explosion hazards and control, and risk analysis. He has been an invited speaker at international process safety conferences and seminars in the United States, Europe and Asia. He is a two-time winner of the Mettler Toledo Reaction Calorimetry award.
Tom is a former member of the DIERS (Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems) and is presently a member of the AIChE’s Center for Chemical Process Safety Technical Steering Committee and Reactivity Management Roundtable. For 25 years, he was a member of ASTM Reactive Chemicals committee where he previously served both as a member of the executive committee and Vice Chairman of the sub-committee on dust explosions. Recently, Tom was an invited panelist at the Chemical Safety Board’s public hearing on Dust Explosions held in Washington, D.C. and has supported the American Chemical Council (ACC) in their ongoing dialogue with OSHA regarding the structure of the proposed rule on combustible dust hazards.
